After four years of waiting, the YouTube Fanfest (YTFF) India event finally happened physically on September 27, 2023, at the Nesco Centre Hall in Mumbai. This year marked YouTube’s 15th anniversary, and it is estimated that over 5000 Indian creators attended the YTFF IN23.
The hosts for the YTFF 2023 India were Prajakta Koli and Danish Sait. They did a decent job compared to most of the performers. The YTFF 2023 India theme song was very basic in terms of music, lyrics, dance, and choreography. It was screened for the attendees before the actual live performances began.
The YTFF IN23 live audience and sound system were messed up. The audience was completely engrossed in making videos of the live performers, and they rarely cheered. The sound system for the YTFF could have been better; the sound mixing sucked, and it was very evident in the first performance of the night itself where Raja Kumari had to compromise. This is an event that is loved by many, so definitely YouTube could have done it in a much better way.
The entire YTFF IN23 felt like a school annual day performance wherein most of the performances were below average, lesser cheers from the audience who seemed to not care enough and were busy video recording, and poor sound system. No major Indian YouTubers were part of the YTFF. And one was disappointed to the core when, in the name of Tanmay Bhatt, a pre-recorded video was screened. Wherein he was doing the usual and catching up with the big YouTubers like Carry Minati, Bhuvan Bham, and Ashish Chanchlani. It felt like just another stream from Tanmay’s channel than being the guest at YTFF.
Overall, the YouTube Fanfest India 2023 was a disappointment. It is an event that is loved by many, and it deserved to be better organized and executed. I hope that YouTube will learn from its mistakes and make the next Fanfest India a truly memorable event for everyone involved.
